Place and Thing are images of figures, void of the physical attributes that make them recognizable as human beings (faces, fingers, feet, etc.). Since everything is categorized as “person”, “place”, or “thing”, these figures, no longer recognizable as human, would be recognized as either “place” or “thing”.
This is the physical representation of a greater loss. We have this level of separation; from ourselves, from each other, and from the world, that is continuously increasing. This separation allows us, both as a society and as individuals, to be apathetic. It allows us to lose the one trait that above all else makes us inherently human: Empathy.
